Over the past 15 years, Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) has allowed federal agencies to conduct “backdoor searches” on the private communications of millions of everyday Americans — without obtaining a warrant. This raises serious concerns about government surveillance overreach, which has led to the racial profiling of Asian American as well as Black, Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (BAMEMSA) communities.

This map from APA Justice tracks state-level land ownership bans that are gaining traction across the nation. In 2023 alone, at least 33 states have proposed more than 80 bills to limit Chinese land ownership — a growing number of which target everyday Asian immigrants who have nothing to do with the Chinese government.
